I see two paths in writing fiction:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. With the use of a prompt, -a word, a concept, or an occurrence, to conceive an outline or framework of a story, and build within an imagined main plot, a network of events, a problem and actors\/protagonists and subplots. In this case, it is easy to start with a title pointing to the main theme\/idea\/ sentiment or swiftly find one as the story develops within the formed basis.<\/li>\n
  2. Starting writing on an impulsive trigger, -a swift thought, a forgotten incident that suddenly comes to mind, something read or heard, or just a mere brain-nudge to express own feelings and happenings, to create a probable story, wrapped up within a fictional coating; the story being developed on a topic but without a pre-conceived framework. Here, a start-title to the writing can be changed several times according to how the main theme, the plot and the actions in the story develop in reference to the stimulus.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    In \u2018SHARING HER APPLES\u2019, I started writing without a plan , intrigued by what I read about \u2018war crimes\u2019 as were explored by the International Criminal Court (ICTY) in the nineteen nineties, -my thoughts provoking some \u2018what ifs\u2019 and imaginary pictures, and questioning as to what extend the victims of rape and hardship in wars would, or could overcome the torturous incidents. It seems this would depend on the strength of one\u2019s character, on the help and support given after the happening, and, most importantly, on receiving love.<\/p>\n

    But as I was forming the main plot, I felt that I should also delve with feelings of injustice in the sufferer\u2019s mind, the appeal for payback, or revenge, as a coping mechanism, in particular in the absence of counseling.<\/p>\n

    So, at first, I thought the title to the story, \u2018The Green Chamber-Pots\u2019, seemed an appropriate title for it, as it referred to the horrible events in Kattie\u2019s life and the aftermath. However, when the first draft had finished, I thought that the story was largely about “SHARING”. It starts with Katie sharing all she had with Billy -her innocence and her apples, then the maltreated women sharing the horrors of war, the relief agencies sharing hope with the battered population, and finally Katie sharing her madness with Billy. Hence, \u201cSHARING HER APPLES\u201d felt the perfect title for the story to be.<\/p>\n
